Tim has led and managed in variety of contexts within the NGO Sector: in organisational and programme management, programme financing, emergencies management and financial management. He can offer consultancy support connected to these disciplines and also in strategic planning and change management. Tim joined Mango in 2010 after leading Learning South West, an UK education and youth work charity, through a substantial period of growth. Between 2002 and 2005 he was Country Director for VSO in Vietnam where he led the development of a new strategic plan focused on HIV and Aids and Disability. Prior to that he worked at Christian Aid for 5 years and held roles such as: Head of Programme Funding and Support (which included the Emergencies Team), Finance and Information Director and Head of Finance. Tim’s first job in the NGO Sector was for Save the Children UK as Regional Accountant for West and Southern Africa which involved extensive travel in order to strengthen the financial management of Field Offices and Programmes in those regions. Tim originally qualified as an accountant, (ACA), with Arthur Andersen and worked in insolvency and turnaround consulting.
Terry Lewis, Training & Publications Director Terry has been a manager in the NGO sector since the early 80s, in the UK and Africa. Her responsibilities have ranged from providing training and internal audit for a large UK Housing Association, to working as a financial adviser to NGOs in Swaziland. For the four years before joining Mango, Terry worked as a freelance consultant and trainer, running financial management and strategic planning training for southern NGOs. During this time, Terry also completed an MSc in Development Management. Since joining Mango in 2001, she has created and led Mango's internationally successful training programme.
Sara is a highly experienced trainer and financial manager. She has worked with large and small NGOs in Kenya, India, and Uganda and across Southern Africa. Sara originally qualified with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, working with blue chip commercial firms and Nuffield Hospitals, in the UK and US. Before joining Mango in 2004, Sara was Regional Finance Advisor for Save the Children (UK) in Southern Africa. Sara also worked on major humanitarian responses in Gujarat, India and long-term development programmes in Kenya and Uganda. In 2006-2008 Sara piloted a Training Support Project for Mango in Sri Lanka whilst seconded to Christian Aid, working closely with the training organisation Paltra. Sara returned to the UK in June 2008 to the new role of Training Partnerships Manager, working with other organisations and finance trainers to build up their training capacity. Rob Hayes, Financial Management Trainer Rob has extensive financial experience in the commercial, education and NGO sectors. Before joining Mango Rob was a senior finance manager in Tanzania with Student Partnerships Worldwide, an international NGO. Rob was responsible for introducing and embedding new financial management policies and procedures. Rob also worked as a financial management consultant in Zimbabwe and Uganda. Rob qualified as a Chartered Management Accountant with a FTSE 100 company. Prior to working in the NGO sector Rob worked for a London University. Debbie Pitt, Financial Management Trainer Debbie has worked for several years as a Financial Manager and in-house trainer in many countries throughout the world, mostly in Asia, in both development and emergency NGOs including Merlin, VSO and Everychild. Debbie’s extensive experience includes working in the field as a Finance Manager; building the skills of a Finance Manager counterpart; and reviewing financial systems and implementing finance manuals. Working for both large and small International NGOs in the field, has given Debbie an insight to the problems that all organisations face with the financial demands put on international and national staff and the importance of having confident and competent well trained personnel to ensure good financial management. Jacques Lauruol, Financial Management Trainer Jacques is an experienced Finance Manager in the Development and Emergency NGO sector. He trained as a Business Accountant in France and holds a Diploma in Management Studies. Before joining Mango, Jacques worked for 10 years with Oxfam where he worked in a variety of position including as an accountant in the Emergencies Department and as a Financial Adviser for different regions. Prior to working with Oxfam, Jacques has worked in a variety of UK national and local NGOs and charities such as: the Young Women Christian Association (Deputy Financial Director), Earthwatch (Chief Finance Officer), the Gloucestershire Counselling Service (Accountant), Wynstones School (Bursar). Erica Howe, Administration Support Manager Before joining Mango Erica worked with major UK retail businesses including Marks & Spencer and Crabtree & Evelyn. She was rapidly promoted to management positions, due to her very strong commitment to meeting customers' needs and her ability to help teams work effectively. She is also experienced in working with international suppliers. Barbara Johnstone, Training Administrator Barbara has a wide and varied experience of project and administrative work. She joined Mango from the UK Atomic Energy Authority in Harwell, where she co-ordinated and supported a range of initiatives. Crystal Logan, Training Support Officer Crystal is a recent graduate from Oxford Brookes University where she studied for a BSc in Hospitality and Tourism Management, with a specific focus on the sustainable development of tourism and stakeholder roles in developing countries. Before University, Crystal spent three and a half years travelling, working and volunteering all over the world with extended periods of time in both Central and South America. She has worked in the English language sector both in an administrative role and as an English teacher. She has also worked in the hospitality and tourism industry, most recently as a tour guide on excursions to destinations around the UK. Briana McCrory, Training Support Officer Briana is a recent graduate from the University of Limerick, Ireland where she studied a Bachelor of Business Studies specialising in Marketing. Briana previously worked for a training company in Ireland where she learnt the benefits that can be gained from effective and efficient training. Briana has moved to Oxford and is excited to have joined the Mango team to further her experience in the training industry with NGO’s. Lucy Markby, Recruitment Director Lucy holds degrees in Anthropology, Development Studies and Human Resource Management and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. Lucy spent 2 years working on educational projects in Palestine and has travelled widely across the Middle East region. She has worked with an emergency health NGO for 5 years with specific responsibilities for recruitment of international staff and 2 years on global deployment with a major international accounting firms. Lucy has served on Emergency Personnel Network’s (EPN) steering committee for 7 years and currently heads up Mango’s recruitment team and provides Human Resource support to the organisation. Jackie Meek, Recruitment Officer Jackie is an experienced HR and finance officer and joined Mango in November 2005. She has wide experience in developing and implementing HR and related systems in the NGO and small business sectors. Before joining Mango, she worked with Viva Network, another international NGO based in Oxford. Jackie has worked with NGO projects in Eastern Europe and Africa and is part-qualified in professional HR management with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. Stella Hobbs, Recruitment Officer Stella is an experienced recruiter of international development professionals and joined Mango in November 2009. Before joining Mango, she worked with International Service, sourcing candidates and guiding UK and in-country selection processes for long-term assignments with local organizations in Bolivia, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Mali and the occupied Palestinian territories. Denise Joseph, Finance and Fundraising Director Denise has extensive experience in advising public and private companies, owner-managed businesses and charities. Prior to joining Mango, she co-founded Noventus Partners, an independent corporate finance advisory firm. She previously was Head of Communications at LongAcre Partners, an independent corporate finance house. In 1998 she co-founded Sweet Charity, a charity that brings together women in business, the media and arts to network and to raise funds for small charities where Sweet Charity’s involvement is likely to make a real difference. She remains a trustee. Denise holds a BSc. (Econ.) from the London School of Economics. She qualified as a Chartered Accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers where she rose to become a senior tax manager. Jo Davies, Financial Controller Jo started her career with the Anchor Trust, a housing association, where she rose to the position of Regional Finance Officer. She moved on to work with another charity, the Oxfordshire Children's Fund, setting up their finance systems on start up. Jo subsequently worked as the Finance Manager for a family run business, before joining Mango early in 2007. Jo Baker, Associate Before joining Mango, Jo was Head of International Finance for the British Red Cross Society for 8 years, responsible for controlling and advising on all international funding. She has worked overseas in Africa, Asia and the Caribbean with partner Red Cross/Crescent Societies. Prior to joining BRCS, Jo qualified as a chartered accountant at a “Big Four” firm where among other clients she worked specifically with a number of charities. Since joining Mango as an Associate, Jo has particularly focused on delivering training courses. Jonathan Orchard, Associate Jonathan is a qualified accountant (ICAEW) and a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA). He has 12 years of experience in working with not-for-profit organisations. Much of this experience was gained with Sayer Vincent, a charity-specialist audit and consultancy firm. His work with international development clients included Save the Children, Oxfam, HelpAge International, Action on Disability & Development - including a secondment to Save the Children's internal audit team. He is also a member of the finance committee of YCare International. Joseph Kaggwa Mukasa, Associate Joseph is a Chartered Certified Accountant and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda. He is a Senior Financial Consultant & Trainer at ACLAIM Africa Ltd, a Ugandan values-based company. He has vast experience in both external and internal audits with NGOs in Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi. Joseph has carried out various financial management trainings, financial management assessments, internal audits and mentoring of finance staff. Michael Pitts, Associate Michael is a qualified accountant (FCA) with 15 years progressive and senior management experience with KPMG. Since 1999 Michael has been working as a consultant to international NGOs, in Eastern Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin-America. Michael was Treasurer of Sightsavers International from 2001 until 2009 and has worked closely with the International HIV/Aids Alliance on assignments including: feasibility of setting up country offices in Mozambique and Madagascar ; evaluation and setting up salary scales in Burkina Faso; recruiting financial personnel (UK and India) and financial reviews. To date Michael has delivered Mango training courses overseas and in the UK and carried out short term financial management reviews for NGO operations in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Michael has recently become a member of the Finance Committee of the Institute of Development Studies. Peter Ewins, Associate Pete is a qualified accountant (ICAEW) and a management consultant with broad skills in governance, financial control and organisational growth. He has significant senior management experience of financial management and internal control gained through working with both large and small charities and commercially, working particularly with Tearfund in a range of positions including Interim Finance Director and Head of Internal Audit. He holds an MSc in Development Practice and has worked on various short term overseas consultancies with NGOs and international organisations including the International Federation of the Red Cross. Sam Musoke, Associate Sam is a qualified accountant (ACA UK), with 10 years’ post qualification experience, mostly in the developing world. She moved to Uganda in 2001, and after 2 years auditing, she joined a Ugandan firm called ACLAIM Africa Ltd where she established the Financial Consultancy and Training department. Sam has been a Mango Associate since 2004. In 2009, she spent 6 months in the Mango offices in Oxford, developing course materials for Farmer Organisations and updating Mango’s online Guide to Financial Management. With ACLAIM, Sam has carried out a wide range of assignments with NGOs in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia and UK. She has developed a holistic approach to organisational financial management capacity building. Other work involves internal audits and systems reviews, accounts computerisation, mentoring, assessments, developing finance manuals and etc. She has experience in the micro finance sector and training at grassroots level. Sareta Thomas, Associate Sareta received a Financial Accountancy degree at the University of Pretoria in South Africa, where after she has worked in the UK with corporate and commercial firms before moving into the NGO sector. Most recently, Sareta was Finance Manager for Save the Children (UK) for the Southern Africa Regional office as well as the South Africa and Lesotho country offices. She also provided assistance and training to other SC UK offices and local partners in the region. She lectured on a part time basis in Accountancy at the Damelin College in South Africa. Sareta is currently a financial consultant and she is advising NGOs' finance teams on best practice in financial management and providing training for project staff. She has recently worked with the Finmark Trust and Save the Children (UK) in Sierra Leone and Egypt. Viraj Jethwa, Associate Viraj is a qualified accountant [FCCA (UK); CA (NZ)] and a graduate of the London School of Economics. Over the past 25 years, he has gained extensive experience in the not-for-profit and private sectors as Internal/External Auditor, Forensic Accountant, Finance Director and CEO. He has a track record of working constructively with trustees, senior management and staff. Apart from auditing, his skills are in organisational development, financial and change management. Viraj has worked for seven years in Sharona Dey, Associate Frances Leaman, Associate Frances is an ACCA qualified accountant who joined Mango as an associate trainer in February 2008. As well as her work with Mango, Frances continues to work with UK Housing Association clients including as Interim Finance Manager for an association specialising in housing for people with mental health problems. Rudi Lewin, Associate Rudi is a qualified accountant (ACA) with 9 years post qualification experience as an international finance professional with executive management experience. Following a successful commercial career in SAP consulting with Andersen Consulting and Audit and Transaction services with PwC he joined Action Aid in 2002 working as Head of Finance, and subsequently Finance Director and company secretary of ActionAid in the UK. He is a results-oriented and highly-motivated individual with strong staff management and system skills and proven track record of delivery under tight deadlines. He is fluent in English, Spanish and German. Currently he is working as a consultant for Action Aid and Mango. Siham Bortcosh Siham is an ACA qualified accountant with extensive consulting and senior management experience. Since 1994, Siham has been working with NGOs and national charities in the UK, in senior financial management positions, including Macmillan Cancer Support and VSO, and on a freelance basis. She is a clear, strategic thinker and finance professional who has taken a leadership role in organisations undertaking major strategic change and growth. She is an excellent project manager, comfortable with high level concepts and objectives as well as detail, with an ability to motivate, coach and develop staff, and to plan and prioritise flexibly and effectively. She has excellent analytical skills developed in a variety of business settings, ranging from complex business transactions to management within large voluntary sector organisations. Siham currently designs, plans and facilitates Mango's seminar programme for the Finance Directors of some of the UK's largest international NGOs. Trustees Paul Masters, Chair of the board of trustees Paul is a founder partner of Metafore Partners, a behavioural change consultancy. He was previously a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers, with roles including Global Training Partner for the Audit and Advisory business. Paul is a qualified accountant, and also a trustee of Disability Snowsport UK, Link Community Development, Bens Educational Trust and chair of Warlingham Sports Club. Lord Joffe, Trustee Joel Joffe has had a long and succesful career in business and development. Orginally from South Africa, he represented Nelson Mandela in the treason trial. On his move to the UK, he was one of the founders of Allied Dunbar (now trading within Zurich Financial Service). Until 2001, he was chair of the board of trustees for Oxfam GB. Joel is a cross bench peer and acts as a trustee for a number of other charitable organisations. Colin Havill, Treasurer Colin was a partner in a Big Four accounting firm and has been working in professional practice in Bristol for the past 20 years. In his career he has also worked for the Confederation of Bristish Industry. He has extensive experience of managing charitable finances, and has travelled widely in the developing world. Sir John Burgh, Trustee Sir John Burgh graduated from the London School of Economics, of which he later became a Governor, Honorary Fellow and Chairman of the Court of Governors. He worked in the British Civil Service for 30 years, mostly in economic and industrial departments. He resigned from his position as a Deputy Secretary in the Department of Trade and Industry on his appointment as Director-General of the British Council. After seven years heading the Council, he was elected President of Trinity College, Oxford, from which he retired in 1996. Sir John has been a Council member of numerous organisations, including Voluntary Services Overseas, Policy Studies Institute and the Royal Society of Arts. Richard Collier-Keywood, Trustee Richard is Global Leader, Tax and UK firm Managing Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers. He is and also the partner responsible for Community Affairs. Richard is a barrister and a qualified chartered accountant and has been a PwC partner since 1992, working with major clients in the UK and the US. Paula Laird, Trustee Paula is the Director of Finance and IT of WaterAid. She was previously WaterAid's Head of Finance, having moved into the NGO sector from the specialist charity accountancy and advisory firm, Sayer Vincent. She previously worked in the banking sector and is a qualified chartered accountant.
